Some history of Remedios Considered the oldest town founded in  Chiriqui, in 1589 (according to recognized historians  Alberto Osorio, Ernesto Castillero and Ruben D. Carles) by Captain Martin Gutierrez, receiving the name of "Our Lady of Remedies or New Town." Remedios was established on the territory that is now called "La Garita" and its founding obeys the orders of the governor of Veraguas, Pedro Roque Riquelme. The new site became an important trading center, among several factors, because its proximity to the sea and have the resources necessary to build timber vessels.
